The 50/50 Engagement Equation
Involving Managers in the Engagement Equation
Half of engagement is the organization’s job: the clarity, recognition, and cadence that invite people to bring their best. The other half is the individual’s: the choice to put their talent and drive into the role. Portal Check-In is where both halves meet, every period, not just every year.
How Portal Check-In Supports your people
The same continuous rhythm works at the individual, team, and organization level — each side getting exactly what it needs from the others.
Your work, your story.
A simple rhythm for goals, feedback, and recognition — owned by the people doing the work. As employees complete goals and receive recognition, they build a running “performance journal.” By year-end, the appraisal is already written.
Walk into every 1:1 ready.
Managers get a consistent rhythm and a clear read on the team — less scrambling, earlier conversations. Because the employee drives the check-in, the manager's role shifts from chasing updates to responding to them.
Build the rhythm that invites engagement.
This is the organization's half of the equation — clarity, recognition, and cadence that scale without adding overhead.
All in One Platform
Your People Analytics on a Unified Talent Platform
Portal Check-In lives inside Spectiv — the platform behind your engagement surveys, 360 feedback, lifecycle surveys, and performance reviews. One system, one rhythm. No new logins, no extra tools, no data to export and stitch together.
What teams ask first
Is this just another tool managers have to maintain?
No. The employee drives the check-in — reflecting, recording goals, and gathering recognition throughout the period. The manager reviews and responds, so the work of keeping performance current sits with the person closest to it.
How is this different from an annual review?
The annual review is a once-a-year scramble to remember what happened. Portal Check-In runs continuously, so the appraisal is built from a running record instead of recall — and nothing in it is a surprise.
Who owns the check-in, the employee or the manager?
The employee owns it — that's the point. They build the “performance journal” of goals, accomplishments, feedback, and recognition; the manager adds structured ratings and comments along the way.
How does the performance score work?
It's a combined view of the employee's input and the manager's, visible as it builds across the period — so by appraisal time, both sides are already aligned.
Does it work with our existing surveys and 360s?
Yes. Check-In is part of Portal in Spectiv, so it shares the same platform as your engagement surveys, 360 feedback, and lifecycle surveys. It’s the same place managers and employees already use to access reports housed in Spectiv. There’s nothing new to integrate.
What does Team Member Health measure?
A red/yellow/green read on each person, scored against one organization-wide definition of “doing well” that you set centrally — so a green on one team means the same as a green on another.
